Gendlin, Three Assertions
Gendlin talks here about what we might call 'the wisdom of the body.' He addresses hunches and intuition and the unconscious (which should make some of you happy -- or happier.) A lot of his thinking should be familiar to you by now. He is trying to explain how we get little bits of knowledge that move us (and I would add our writing) forward. Can you pause, listen to your own

Jason Palmeri
In response to Jason Palmeri, discuss what it means to you to be a _________. Put your professional identity in the blank, eg: a compositionist, a sociologist, an English prof, etc. This is meant to be a quick, short piece of writing. No more than a page or two, and if you need more than a half hour, you are thinking too much. Complete by Feb. 2.

Shipka, last chapter from _Toward a Composition Made Whole_
Jody Shipka argues for 'the importance of theoretical, research, and pedagogical frameworks that help to illuminate the spatial, temporal, embodied, affective, and material dimensions of writing.' Clearly her own work is in line with our work in this seminar. So, as a final conversation (and looking toward your final reflections), how does your own work this semester illustrate what Shipka is advocating?

Van Manen on Writing, Drawing, & Entering
Van Manen writes poetically about writing, trying to evoke in the reader what writing is and how we experience it. Choose one or two lines that speak to you and muse on them in writing. In other words, how do van Manen's musings speak to you? Can you see yourself in his descriptions? Do they resonate? Do they bring forth a felt sense?

Do they induce a questioning wonder? Do they make your more interested in or excited about the prospect of writing? What else does (or does not) speak to you?
