Because I am only halfway through my first year of graduate school, I guess I would call myself a humanist and future educator. For me, this means I am in a constant state of change. I am absorbing things at an enormous rate, to use effectively during my time as a student, and to store for later use in my career. While some would argue otherwise (considering the state of the education system), I feel lucky to have chosen to go back to school now, not only because it’s a time of tremendous change for what I want to do, but also because I think I am in good position to take in new ways of educating future generations. To be someone in my position at this moment in time is to be hyper-aware of changes going on around me, to be able to adapt quickly to those changes, and make them my own. By necessity, I have to be continuously involved in whatever is the cutting edge of humanities education (two phrases that seem funny to use in the same sentence).
